Shelf 1: U.S. History

When I was growing up, my father made a point of telling me that his education in American history involved “memorizing the Confederate generals”. I’ll admit to a soft spot for historical detail (and/or trivia), but this shelf is devoted to connecting the old school story of the Founding Fathers with the stories of ordinary people, with an emphasis on the never-ending struggle for control of the meanings of freedom and liberty.
