Louis Armstrong once defined jazz as “music that’s never played the same way once.” I’ve always loved experimentation and improvisation; it took me a while to realize that jazz had shaped my thoughts on everything from teaching to raising daughters; whatever you think you know isn’t likely to work next time, so be ready. And don’t be afraid to fail.
